"The Eagle Cries"
By Pamela Blaine
Twins,
teeming with life,
reach upward
In the early morning light
from the peaceful nest of the Eagle
Who watches over them from the
Heights of freedom,
for they dwell in peace.
Beneath the stars and stripes,
In the seat of honor,
five soldiers labor diligently
In the city of law and justice
Suddenly, serenity is broken
As men without hearts
Bring destruction
against the children of the Eagle.
Empty eyes trained to hate
Steal silver wings
filled with guiltless ones
And evil takes hold of innocence
Predators feed upon the lifeblood of others
As ice runs through their veins.
The gift of life is meaningless to them,
They shed innocent blood.
They seize blameless ones,
And make them instruments of death.
They pierce the hearts of the twins,
As the twins fall, the fifth soldier dies?
And the Eagle cries.

My husband and I live in Missouri. We have 4 children and 4 grandchildren. I pray for those who have experienced loss or injury due to the tragic events of September 11. Our youngest son left for Marine basic training in July and graduated December 7, on Pearl Harbor Day. I enjoy writing, music, and country living. I write "Pam's Corner" for the local newspaper and contribute to several e-zines. You can see more stories on my Webpage:
